Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy Program

Hi, I'm Julie Thorneley,

I am the Chaplain for Soldiers Point Public School and I'm available to help you and your family. As a school, Soldiers Point Public has been successful in receiving a grant from the Commonwealth Government as part of the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Support Program. This grant enables us to provide chaplaincy support to the students, staff and families of our school.

What does a Chaplain do?

  • Assist in the development and continuation of the schools welfare programs.
  • Network with welfare services, local churches and other agencies in the local community to provide a broad range of support services to the school community.
  • Work with the School Learning Support Team to facilitate student wellbeing.
  • Facilitate groups, events and activities to support emotional and spiritual wellbeing with voluntary student participation.
  • Support staff at school camps, excursions and other activities as required.
  • Provide pastoral care and personal assistance for students, staff and parents of the school community regardless of religious or cultural background in coordination with the school counsellor and other support staff.

As the school chaplain I am expected to respect the range of religious views and affiliations, and cultural traditions within the school community, and be approachable by students of all faiths.

I am available to meet with students with parental permission, and other members of the school community to provide support and guidance regarding relationships, life choices, values and spiritual matters.

Please feel free to contact me at the school office via phone or the school's email address if you have any questions.

Julie
