High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Soldiers Point Public School, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is an integral part of everyday learning. Our dedicated teachers extend learning through enrichment projects, flexible grouping, and curriculum acceleration, ensuring every student’s unique abilities are challenged and nurtured.
Students engage with higher-order thinking, independent research, and authentic opportunities to showcase their talents. In our supportive classrooms, they are encouraged to set personal goals, take risks, and collaborate creatively, fostering resilience and a strong sense of belonging.
We use evidence-informed teaching practices tailored to individual learning needs, providing clear feedback and promoting self-assessment. Our educators continuously engage in professional learning to create dynamic and enriching pathways that empower high potential and gifted learners to thrive and achieve their best.
At Soldiers Point Public School, we recognise that every student is unique, and we provide a wide range of flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and develop their strengths beyond the classroom.
Our school offers numerous whole-school programs that nurture student growth and celebrate individual talents. We actively identify and support students with high potential through targeted enrichment, extension, and extra-curricular activities such as debating, public speaking, school band and rock band, musicals, chess club, and masterclasses.
All students, including our high potential and gifted learners, are encouraged to build leadership skills through participation in the Student Representative Council (SRC), school buddy programs, library monitors, Junior AECG and sports captain roles.
Students’ talents are showcased and extended through drama productions, art masterclasses, dance ensembles, gardening projects, and performances in concerts and competitions. Sporting opportunities are also abundant, with PSSA representative teams, specialised sport clinics, training squads, and differentiated physical education programs available to cater to diverse interests and abilities.
At Soldiers Point Public School, we are committed to providing enriching experiences that empower every student to thrive, lead, and shine in multiple domains.
Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential e.g. Premier's Reading Challenge, Arts Unit's Debating, Starstruck, Hunter Inter-Schools Primary Public Speaking Competition.
Statewide/NSW Department of Education level support is available for our high potential and gifted students.
